Gerald Gunther, UN Women Representative in the Kyrgyz Republic
Mr. Gerald Gunther has been UN Women Representative in Kyrgyzstan since May 2015.
Prior to joining UN Women in Bishkek in May 2012 Gerald was Deputy Representative of UNFPA Afghanistan from 2008 to 2012.
Gerald has experience in women’s economic and political empowerment, ending violence against women and girls, good governance and poverty reduction. He has worked for the UN in Afghanistan, Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, Kyrgyzstan, Malaysia, Mongolia, China, Timor Leste and Vietnam. A graduate with an MSc (Econ) in Strategic Studies from the University of Wales, United Kingdom, he began his career at Midland Montagu investment bank and worked for several years in London, New York and Dusseldorf.
Gerald has extensive experience in Central Asia, having worked with GTZ in Kyrgyzstan and with UNDP in Bishkek. He has worked with UNOPS in several East Asian countries and later established and headed its sub-regional office in Beijing, serving on the China and Mongolia UN Country Teams.
Meriza Emilbekova, UN Women Communications and Advocacy Specialist
Ms. Meriza Emilbekova joined UN Women Country Office in the Kyrgyz Republic in February 2016. Meriza is a graduate in Sociology from the American University of Central Asia. Prior to joining UN Women Meriza has worked as a Monitoring & Evaluation Officer within the Multi-Donor Trust Fund project “Capacity Building in Public Finance Project” administered by the World Bank. Meriza has more than 5 years of experience in working with public institutions and international organizations in Kyrgyzstan.
